Bears sign four tryout players from mini-camp


The Chicago Bears hoped they found some diamonds in the rough from the team’s recent rookie mini-camp. The Bears inked four players who were invited to the camp as tryout players to deals.

Among those signed were WR Demetrius Fields, DT Corvey Irvin and DT Christian Tupou (two-poe).  The Bears also agreed to terms with CB Maurice Jones. To make room on the 90-man roster, the club released veteran special teams LB Dom DeCicco and CB LeQuan Lewis

The 6-0, 210-pound Fields is a rookie out of Northwestern University who hauled in 114 receptions for 1,203 yards (10.6 ypr) and seven touchdowns in 52 career games with 36 starts over four seasons (2009-12) for the Wildcats.

Irvin has appeared in 18 games over three seasons with the Carolina Panthers (2010), Jacksonville Jaguars (2011) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2012) after being selected by Carolina in the third round (93rd overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft. The 6-2, 295-pounder recorded 11 tackles during that time.

The 6-2, 290-pound Tupou is a first-year player out of USC who went undrafted and unsigned in 2012. He appeared in 41 games with 32 starts over five seasons (2007-11) for the Trojans, recording 53 tackles and seven tackles for losses.

The 5-9, 193-pound Jones is a rookie out of Temple University, appearing in 46 games with 12 starts over four seasons (2009-12) with the Owls, recording 105 tackles (83 solo), six tackles for losses, one interception and six pass break-ups.
