RB Unga promoted to Bears active roster

Running back Harvey Unga, a supplemental draft pick in 2010, was added to the Chicago Bears active roster to provide depth and special teams assistance. To clear space on the 53 man active roster, the Bears waived defensive end Cheta Ozougwu.

The 6-0, 237-pound Unga is on the active roster for the first time. He’s spent the majority of the last three seasons on the club’s practice squad, and has also been released twice by the team this year.

Unga played collegiately at BYU, where he remains the school’s all-time rushing leader with 3,455 yards. In his final season in Provo in 2009, he picked up 1,087 yards and scored 11 touchdowns. Unga gives the Bears insurance should Matt Forte or backup Armando Allen not be effective after sustaining injuries last week in Arizona.

Bears Bits: LB Brian Urlacher practiced in a limited manner, but is listed as doubtful for Sunday. It could be Urlacher’s final game in a Chicago uniform. He’ll be a free agent after the seaso an, and it remains to be seen if the Bears would bring him back for a short-term deal….Second-year safety Anthony Walters will get his first career start in place of injured Chris Conte (hamstring). The Lions are sure to challenge Walters range downfield.
